REJOICE!  Today, can you say that your spirit has rejoiced?

It’s cold outside (okay, not today in Oklahoma, but it will be again soon). Days are shorter.  It’s the holiday season, and everyone’s celebrations remind you of your loss over the year. You haven’t been as successful this year as you desired.

Can you say that your spirit has rejoiced?

Mary, sweet Mary.  She was a young child herself. She was engaged at a young age, but that was the custom of her time.  Mary had her eyes set on the man she would marry.  He would take care of her, and together, they would not only build their dreams, but they would build a family.

Mary was just like any other young lady.  She had opportunities to obey, and she had opportunities to disobey.  The Bible tells us that she had “found favor with God” (Luke 1:30).  Not only had she found favor, but AN ANGEL greeted her telling her she was “highly favored”.  Yeah, I think that would cause a young girl to quiver.

Then, the angel proceeds to tell her she is going to have a child.  WHOA!  Hang on here!  Mary had a problem.  She was engaged. She wasn’t married. And further explanantion needed to be given: Luke 4:34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

Yep, there is a problem.

In man’s eyes.

Not God’s.

And, the rest, is as they say, HISTORY.

Did Mary have reason to proclaim not too long after this encounter with the angel “and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”?  Sure she did.  But I dare say she had to be scared!

Young ladies dream of how their life will be when they grow up.  They’ll grow up, marry the man of their dreams, have the job they want, have the number of children they decide, live where they want to live.  HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL.

And Mary, is an example of obedience to God.  She was entrusted with a gift for the whole world.  With one little visit from an angel, her life was TURNED UPSIDE DOWN!  Yes, Jesus was a blessing, but He was not planned.  Everything she and Joseph had dreamed of in their earthly dreams would now change.  But, Mary REJOICED.

As you look to where you are today, has your life been lived in obedience? Undoubtedly, you are probably not where you intended to be.  Are you able to REJOICE where you are today?

If you aren’t able to rejoice, I encourage you to renew your commitment to Christ. Regardless of the struggles, when you allow God to have leadership in your life, you will continuously see how He has ordained your path.  Give Him control.

I pray that soon you will also be able to say “And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior”!
